Among the Tulip

Back to List

Kees is happy. He has just given a basket of flowers to his cousin Greetje, who curtsey politely in return. It is lovely to be out here in the tulip fields in spring. Such brilliant colours you never saw in your life. The sails of a dozen windmills are lazily revolving, operating the pumps that keep the water from overflowing the bulbfields.

Why is Kees so happy ? It is good to be in such a lovely place, to enjoy health and strength, to be young and free, but that is not all. It is because he has given a present that he has such a nice feeling inside.

The Lord Jesus once said: "It is better to give than to receive." That is true, and He has proved it, because He has given us all the good things of life to enjoy, whether we are thankful or not.

Yet there is one thing that we can bring to Him, which will give Him joy. "My son," He says, "give Me thine heart." Yield yourself to Him, and you will have such joy in your heart as is known nowhere else in this world, the joy of knowing that He is yours and you are His.

Soon Jesus will come, and all who have given their hearts to Him will live with Him for ever.
