The Little Dutch Girl

Back to List

When I was a boy here were many more windmills than now. In one little place in South Holland there were about twenty, quite close together.

One day a little girl was playing near one of these, and, not realising her danger, she was getting nearer and nearer to the big sails, which came down almost to the ground. A man who was passing saw her dangerous position, and, just in time, ran over and snatched her away. Her life was saved, but the poor man had no time to get out of the way himself, and the sail struck him down and killed him.

I can imagine that little girl, when she was older, wanting to hear the story of that man giving his life to save her from death. She must have been so grateful !

Does that remind you of the Lord Jesus? He came into this world to save us from a danger even greater than that which the little Dutch girl escaped. He died on the cross, so that all that trust Him might have their sins washed away, and go to be with Him in heaven. Have you said "Thank you" to Him?
