SHIP AHOY! |
|
YES, there she is, coming over the horizon, her sails filling with the stiff breeze, her sharp prow cutting through the water like a knife. Isn't she a fine sight?
I wonder where she comes from, and what cargo she has aboard?
See, a signal is being hoisted. What does it mean ? We are not left long in doubt, for a little boat is putting out from the harbour, a tiny craft with a "P" on its bows. It is the pilot. Even a great ship like this one would not dare put into harbour without a pilot. He is there. His craft is tied up, and he is scrambling up the rope ladder. Now he makes straight for the bridge, where the captain hands him all the ship's papers, and the pilot takes the wheel. This ship will make the harbour safe and sound.
Do you know, every one of us is making a voyage, sailing upon the sea of life, braving the storms of sorrow and trouble, enjoying the lively breezes of prosperity. All of us, I suppose, want to reach the heavenly harbour safely, but that is hopeless without a Pilot. The Lord Jesus, Who shed His precious blood to put away the sins of all that trust Him, wants us to give the wheel into His hands, so that He may bring us safely and happily home to port.
"I will guide thee with Mine eye," He, says.
"So He bringeth them to their desired haven."
